KultureCity is a non-profit organization seeking to improve the quality of life for those with sensory needs. KultureCity works to help individuals engage in their community by educating different types of organizations on how to be more sensory-inclusive. They offer certifications, hands-on staff training, and many other tools to help all types of businesses create a more welcoming environment for everyone.

Since the program’s inception, KultureCity has created over 350 sensory-inclusive venues in 4 countries: this includes special events such as the NFL Pro-Bowl, NFL Super Bowl and MLB All Star Weekend. KultureCity has won many awards for its efforts, including the NASCAR Betty Jane France Humanitarian Award in 2017 and the 2018 Clio Sports Silver for social good in partnership with the Cleveland Cavaliers/Quicken Loans Arena. The Cleveland Cavaliers’ Quiet Space Sensory Room at Quicken Loans Arena was a finalist for the 2018 Stadium Business Award, and recently, KultureCity was named one of the World’s Most Innovative Companies for 2019 by FastCompany.
The sensory room is available for guests in 15-minute increments unless permission is given otherwise. This ensures that it is as accessible as possible for multiple guests on a given day. We designed this space to be inviting and calming for guests, so they can feel at ease in a comfortable space until they are ready to rejoin their event.
You can borrow a sensory bag from the security office or ask any staff member for a sensory bag. You can also pick up a sensory bag before or during your event at designated locations by looking for the sign labeled “Sensory Bags Available Here.”
When you get a sensory bag at an event at Overland Park Convention Center, it comes with tools to help you feel calm during your visit. This includes multiple fidget tools, a weighted lap pad, noise-canceling headphones, and verbal cue cards. Our guests use these tools to help them feel less overwhelmed during their visit.
Part of our certification includes having sensory bags as a resource for our guests to borrow while at the venue. These bags are available at no cost to individuals and/or families and are a tool to help guests feel calm and reduce overstimulation. We have cleaning protocols in place to ensure all items are sanitary and ready to go for guests.
A sensory room is a space created specifically to help someone who is feeling physically and/or emotionally overstimulated. Certain types of overstimulation that can occur at an event are caused by loud noises, bright lights, lots of people, and movement. A sensory room is a quiet place for guests to go when they are feeling overwhelmed to regain a sense of calm and comfort so they can continue to enjoy their visit.
The design of the sensory room is a space that invites calmness and focus. We accomplished this by providing comfortable seating, tactile art, and activity panels to give guests something to occupy their time in the room.
The goal of the sensory room is to provide sensory accessibility so everyone can enjoy and feel welcome at events at Overland Park Convention Center.
Starting Oct. 27th 2022, the Overland Park Convention Center went cashless to amplify our award-winning guest experience. This includes any food and beverage purchases made at our concession stands, Cyber Cafe, and in other areas of our facility. Going cashless allows us to be even more efficient, minimizing wait times for the customer and reducing touchpoints for the customer and staff in line with our health and safety protocols.
We will continue to accept all major credit and debit cards, electronic payment apps, and mobile payment services (including Apple, Android and Google Pay) through our integrated payments partnership with Shift4.

The facility is equipped with 24-hour surveillance cameras and on-site security personnel. Entrances to the Exhibit Halls, Ballrooms and Courtyard Rooms are secured with restricted access electronic locks. To learn more, call 913.339.3000.
Each event is responsible for providing ticketing services for their event. When requested, the Overland Park Convention Center offers a portable box office for rental.

We are handicapped accessible; however, we do not provide wheelchairs at the venue.

There are 17 designated spots for handicapped parking under our covered parking lot located on the north side of the building off of 110th Street. The building is equipped with handicapped-accessible entrances & a passenger elevator to navigate both floors of the convention center.
The Overland Park Convention Center has eight loading docks suitable for standard commercial trailers. We provide two drive-in ramps that provide access directly to the Exhibition Hall, and a large, sliding glass wall provides access to our spacious pre-function areas. The loading dock entrance is located on the east side of the building. Covered parking leading to two freight elevators allows for personal vehicle load-in access. Contact your show promoter for more information.
Parking is free, with approximately 1,000 spaces around the complex, including 244 spaces under a covered garage, of which 17 are designated for handicapped parking. The main parking lot is located on the north side of the building off of 110th Street. Additional parking is available on College Boulevard.

We do not allow outside food and beverage into the facility for events. Our international, award-winning executive chef and catering team can design an experience for any type of event. From modern to traditional, ethnic to kosher, our food and beverage capabilities are limitless. In addition, our barbecue partner, Jack Stack Barbecue, can be catered in when requested.
For certain events, food and beverage are available to the public through our concession stands, Cyber Cafe, and portable concession carts.
