In 2010, driven by a desire to spend more time with his children, Brett resigned from his position as Vice President of Convention Center Operations and Regional Vice President for Global Spectrum (now Oak View Group – OVG360), choosing to return as the General Manager of the Overland Park Convention Center.

He has served on the Board of Directors for the Center for Exhibition Industry Research (CEIR), as Chair of the International Association of Venue Managers’ (IAVM) Convention Center Committee, and as Co-Chair of the Exhibition Services and Contractors Association (ESCA) Venue Council. In 2021, Brett was honored with ESCA’s Volunteer of the Year award.
A nationally respected leader, Brett was requested to serve on three of the most important industry initiatives in the last decade: ‘GBAC STAR’ – a customized approach for venues to achieve accreditation through the Global Biorisk Advisory Council for planning, response, and recovery related to infectious disease; ‘Secure Venues’ – a partnership with the Department of Homeland Security to develop best practices to combat modern-day threats to convention venues; ‘City Pairs’ – a joint task force with Destinations International to accurately report economic impact generated from the live events industry.
