Barb Silin, CMP, CVP, CTA is a dedicated sales professional at the award-winning Overland Park Convention Center (OPCC).
Since starting at the convention center upon its opening in 2002, Barb temporarily ventured into expanding her expertise in the hospitality industry as the Director of Food & Beverage for Cerner and went on to work for Starwood Hotels to gain a broader perspective of the inner workings of the hotel business. However, her passion for OPCC drew her back in 2010, where she has since achieved significant milestones in her career.
With a wealth of experience in her role at the convention center since 2010, Barb has successfully marketed the venue to both national and local corporate markets. Additionally, she has had the privilege of collaborating with area nonprofits to organize their fundraising galas and contribute to the success of various trade shows.
Barb achieved the acclaimed Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) designation from the Events Industry Council in 2015. This distinguished credential, recognized throughout the meetings, conventions, and exhibitions industry, demonstrates an individual’s comprehensive knowledge of meeting management as well as a commitment to the profession.
Barb has also received OPCC’s Employee of the Year award, graduated from the Chamber of Overland Park’s Leadership Overland Park program in 2017, and most recently, obtained her Certified Venue Professional (CVP) certification from International Association of Venue Managers (IAVM).
While her academic journey began at the University of Iowa, Barb’s love for the Hawkeyes remains unwavering. As an avid fan, she eagerly anticipates Football Saturdays, where she can immerse herself in the excitement of the game. When she’s not cheering on her beloved Hawkeyes, you can find Barb at home spending time with her two children, Ben (17) and Abby (14), as well as her dog, Leo (9).
