Record-breaking revenue
2024 marked the highest gross revenue in the convention center’s 23 year history — a milestone year for business growth and performance.
“It’s with immense pride that I reflect on the remarkable strides we made in 2024. We not only reached our highest grossing revenue in the convention center’s history, but more importantly achieved our highest customer satisfaction scores aT THE SAME TIME.
We continued to elevate the guest experience with the addition of James Beard competition-winning Executive Chef David Ruiz, whose culinary leadership is reshaping our food and beverage program with a fusion of creativity inspired by natural and sustainable products. We also completed a multi-phase landscape and lighting transformation, bringing beauty, safety, and intention to every inch of our exterior spaces.
In addition, we proudly added to our growing list of awards and industry recognitions — including national and regional honors for excellence in service, hospitality, and culinary innovation.
These accomplishments are a direct reflection of our team’s experience, passion, and unyielding commitment to just say “yes”. I am grateful for every employee who played a role in this extraordinary year, and for our clients, partners, community, and the CITY OF OVERLAND PARK who continue to place their trust in us.
As we look ahead, we do so with energy and purpose to remain an industry leader in service, innovation, and client satisfaction.”
– Brett C. Mitchell, General Manager

In 2024, Overland Park Convention Center launched a bold new brand identity — one that mirrors our evolution and our vision for the future. From visual clarity to user-first design, this refresh positions OPCC as a modern leader in the event and hospitality industry.
NEW LOGO & IDENTITY
Our updated logo was designed to represent who we are today — a forward-thinking, nationally recognized convention center — while maintaining roots in trust, clarity, and professionalism.
With cleaner lines, simplified structure, and versatile formats for digital, signage, and print, this refreshed identity strengthens brand consistency across all platforms and applications.

EVOLVED COLOR PALETTE
Our new color palette reflects the tone of the modern OPCC: calm, confident, and forward-looking. Carefully selected for visual balance, accessibility, and versatility, each color works seamlessly across digital platforms and printed materials.
We also prioritized accessibility, ensuring strong contrast and readability for all users — including those with visual impairments. This thoughtful approach helps us create materials that are inclusive, easy to read, and consistent across every guest touchpoint.

Typography refinement
Typography plays a vital role in both brand perception and user experience. Butler Light and Medium offer a classic, editorial look for headlines, while Proxima Nova provides clean, modern readability for all digital and print body content.
Our font choices improve hierarchy, accessibility, and cross-platform consistency — creating a seamless experience whether someone is browsing our website, reading signage, or flipping through a program.

VIRTUAL TOUR VIDEO
In 2023, we promised a new era in venue exploration — and in 2024, we delivered. OPCC launched a reimagined virtual tour video series, combining visuals with storytelling that captures the full scale and flexibility of our event spaces.
These videos offer planners and attendees an immersive, dynamic look inside our facility — reflecting our bold new identity and reinforcing our commitment to delivering exceptional event experiences across every touchpoint.
This rebranded series provides a first-hand, virtual experience for those planning meetings, trade shows, banquets, and consumer events — from anywhere in the world.

“At OPCC, I believe every dish is an opportunity to make a difference — for our guests, our team, and the planet. From forging partnerships with local farmers to reducing food waste through community recovery programs, we’re proving that large-scale hospitality can be both exceptional and responsible. My goal is to lead a kitchen that prioritizes health, sustainability, and education — not just for those we serve, but for the people who make it all happen behind the scenes.”
David Ruiz, Executive Chef

ELEVATING FIRST IMPRESSIONS
From the moment guests arrive, they’re now greeted by thoughtful, layered plantings and elegant hardscapes that complement the architecture and elevate curb appeal.
- Completed hardscape and drainage improvements along College Blvd. and Icon Tower
- New limestone ledgerock walls and screening hedges at the Woodson Street parking lot
- ADA-conscious transitions and updated paver systems for improved accessibility
- Strategic exterior lighting for improved guest safety and nighttime aesthetics

PLANTING WITH PURPOSE
The updated landscaping isn’t just beautiful — it’s intentional, adaptive, and sustainable. More than 100 new plantings were chosen for seasonal interest, native resilience, and pollinator support, including:
- Northwind Switch Grass for structure and movement
- Wild Ginger & Blue Zinger Sedge for shaded ground cover
- Little Lime Hydrangeas & Candy Corn Spirea for vibrant color throughout the seasons
- Buffalo Juniper & Densiformis Yew for evergreen texture and winter interest
Each area — including the Icon Tower entrance, loading dock, chiller wall, utility yard, and parking lot buffer zones — was redesigned with aesthetics and sustainability in mind.

COMPLIANCE & SUSTAINABILITY HIGHLIGHTS
- Native and adaptive plants selected for low water use
- Improved site drainage to reduce runoff and erosion
- Energy-efficient lighting upgrades
- Enhanced visual screening and safety around service zones
- Designed in accordance with city ordinances and accessibility standards

“This project was about more than just plants and pavers — it was about delivering on a long-term vision to create a more welcoming, beautiful, and sustainable environment for our guests, clients, and staff. Every element, from lighting to landscaping, was intentionally designed to enhance the overall experience while supporting long-term maintenance, accessibility, and environmental responsibility.”
George Middleton – Director of Operations
