Brett C. Mitchell, CVE is General Manager at the Overland Park Convention Center.

In 2010, driven by a desire to spend more time with his children, Brett resigned from his position as Vice President of Convention Center Operations and Regional Vice President for Global Spectrum (now Oak View Group – OVG360), choosing to return as the General Manager of the Overland Park Convention Center.

Within the past four years under Brett’s leadership, Exhibitor Magazine named Overland Park Convention Center the Best Small Convention Center in North America three times and once for the Best Customer Service & On-Site Support in North America for convention centers of any size.

Brett earned a degree in Sports Business Management from Brigham Young University and later served on the Industry Advisory Council for the school’s Facility Management Program. He has served on the Board of Directors for the Center for Exhibition Industry Research (CEIR), as Chair of the International Association of Venue Managers’ (IAVM) Convention Center Committee, and as Co-Chair of the Exhibition Services and Contractors Association (ESCA) Venue Council. In 2021, Brett was honored with ESCA’s Volunteer of the Year award.

A nationally respected leader, Brett was requested to serve on three of the most important industry initiatives in the last decade: ‘GBAC STAR’ – a customized approach for venues to achieve accreditation through the Global Biorisk Advisory Council for planning, response, and recovery related to infectious disease; ‘Secure Venues’ – a partnership with the Department of Homeland Security to develop best practices to combat modern-day threats to convention venues; ‘City Pairs’ – a joint task force with Destinations International to accurately report economic impact generated from the live events industry.    

Brett, son of a United States Marine Corps General, has been happily married to Sheila Cook Mitchell of Vernal, Utah for twenty-seven years, and takes the most pride in being the father of Georgia, Emma, Noah, and Maia.
